The Lutheran Church Community (LCC) K-9 Comfort Dog teams have arrived in Roseburg, Oregon.  They aim to bring comfort to those survivors and those affected by the shootings that took place there recently at the Umpqua Community College.

The teams are from four different states, and all traveled to get there to help out.  Upon arrival, they were invited to the home of Pastor Samuel Sarkassian of the Green Community Church.  He lives across the street from where the shootings happened.

The church community had just about finished up with their regular Sunday potluck when the dogs were brought in.  According to their Facebook page, the LCC K-9 team said you could feel an almost sigh of relief.  Many of the children present were actually in classrooms not far from where the shootings happened, and many were still confused and scared.

The comfort team has been together for a while now.  They’ve helped out victims of Hurricane Katrina, and were also on hand to help out with the Sandy Hook school shootings not long ago.

The group’s mission statement is very clear.  “A dog is a friend who brings calming influence, allowing people to open up their hearts and receive help for what is affecting them.”
