The mission behind Good Pet Guardian Lesson Plans is to educate youth, from 4th through grade 12, about animal awareness within the educational core curriculum.   The objective is to achieve this through the use of stray dog data from the annual American Strays Canine Survey  (conducted by the World Animal Awareness Society) that would be relevantly applied to each subject.   For example, math could use a variety of numbers provided from the survey, such as the number of animals recorded in prior surveys and the most recent number, to create arithmetic problems that are steeped in fact.  Likewise, a photograph could become the foundation for a story or poem in creative writing.  In the same fashion, science, geography, history, economics, and social science can be supported with statistical information, bringing these lessons directly home on multiple levels.

The ultimate goal is that students will learn educational essentials in addition to fostering a an appreciation of, care and concern for animals, without pushing a specific agenda.

This is how the Good Pet Guardian Lesson Plans work as listed on their website:

  1. A set of lesson plans, “The Bones” were generated by 4th grade teachers.
  2. An Ambassador school in the city of Detroit was chosen – Dixon ELA.
  3. “The Bones” are given to the Ambassador school teachers.
  4. The Good Pet Guardian Lesson Plan team help Dixon execute the plans.
  5. WA2S Films will produce new video content with Dixon students.
  6. The filmed content and finished plans are given to all Detroit 4th graders.
  7. Dixon as 4th grade Ambassadors help Detroit 4th graders use the plans.
