Toto Knew He Was in Line to Be Surrendered, but His Story Doesn’t End There

Anyone that has ever had a dog knows that they seem to be able to tell when things are going on.  Like with Toto here, who totally figured out that he was in line to be surrendered at the Carson Animal Control office in California.  The story for Toto however isn’t all bad, however.  His adorable nature made sure he didn’t stay in the shelter long.

You can tell that Toto figured out pretty quickly what was going on.  Apparently, he was “too vocal” for his humans.  Kind of a lame reason to give a dog up, considering that it only takes a small amount of time and effort to train your dog properly when barking is and is not OK.

As the video says, the look on Toto’s face says it all.  You can see him almost begging the callous person holding the other end of that leash not to do it, to give him some more time to get it right.  However, the person is unmoved, and Toto was taken in by the shelter.

This presented a problem for them.  As evidenced by the line of people waiting to surrender animals, the shelter is almost always full.  This left Toto in an even worse situation than he might have thought.  Unfortunately, in times of extreme overcrowding, like now, the shelter is forced to put animals down for space, regardless of how fit they’d be to be adopted out.

The good part of all of this is Toto was NOT put down.  He was not sent out to a foster home either, which is something that the shelter relies heavily on considering the overcrowding problems they almost always seem to face.  Toto was adopted out to a forever family, and they promise to never put him through something like this again.  They will work with him, and show him love and patience, and want him to know he’ll never be surrendered again!
