A 26-year-old woman has been charged with cruelty to animals after throwing a puppy from the window of a moving vehicle as it traveled in South Carolina on I-85 on Sunday.
Deputies were called by a man and woman who were giving Tracy Carr, the woman’s sister, a ride to West Virginia. Carr, the couple told police, was recently released from a prison in Georgia, where she had been charged with assault.
Carr had the puppy with her when they picked her up, they said. The dog had been sitting in her lap — in the back seat — as they traveled.
At one point, they said, the pup tried to get into the front seat and they asked Carr to keep it in the back. Immediately after, said Carr’s sister, she heard the window being rolled down — then, a thud. She turned to see Carr pulling her arm back inside the vehicle. The puppy was gone.
The couple pulled over and called police immediately. Deputies found the dog, miraculously alive. Animal control has since taken custody.
Carr told police that she didn’t throw the puppy, that it jumped out when she rolled down the window.
Per police documents, reported MS News Now via Fox Carolina, Carr told deputies she ““hoped the dogs head exploded on the ground so that it died without feeling pain.”
Carr was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals. At press time she was being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
