Everyone knows that if it’s a tennis ball that needs to be tracked down and retrieved, you only need look to the nearest dog for help.  So naturally, dogs would be an excellent choice as “ball boy” for a tennis tournament, right?  Well, the organizers of the Brazil Tennis Open thought so, and that’s again what they’ll be doing for this year’s event.

This will mark the second year in a row that rescue dogs will be featured during the event.  Of course there’s the bit about this kind of being an ultimate job for a dog, however there’s so much more to it than just that.  All of the dogs used in the tournament are rescues that were saved and are looking for a new home.

That’s really the best part of all of this.  The dogs will be available for adoption after the tournament is over, and the event organizers are really hoping to see the same success as last time around where every dog in the event was eventually adopted.

“No matter their origin or age, when they are loved and fed properly [rescued dogs] can be wonderful companions.  [They can] play, learn new things and accomplish great deeds,” said organizer, Madalena Spinazzola in a press release.  “They are dogs that have had difficulties in life, yes.  But what we want to show is not the stories suffered in the past, rather to prove that, regardless of what they’ve experienced, they can be great companions today and in the future!”
