eBay Service Dog Vest Listing Draws Fire

With news affiliates reporting frequent abuses of service dog privileges by those falsely claiming that their dogs are certified, it’s no wonder that the comment thread on this eBay listing is heated.

With news affiliates reporting frequent abuses of service dog privileges by those falsely claiming that their dogs are certified, it’s no wonder that the comment thread on this eBay listing is heated: the listing suggests that the buyer use the vest to play the system:

Use this for your good puppy and take her shopping with you. May have to play blind or stupid, but you love your puppy.

Unacceptable. Join the discussion or send eBay a message: thus far they’ve ignored inquiries about the incident, but your feedback could be instrumental in getting the listing pulled.

Those with real medical issues face regular discrimination when out in public with service dogs, and a large part of the problem is the perception on the part of business owners that many are falsely claiming service dog credentials. Morons like this eBayer are adding fuel to the fire, and nothing would make us happier than to see this listing pulled before the seller makes a dime.

  1. There’s a link under Other item info where you can select Prohibited and Restricted Items -> Illegal items or items promoting illegal activity – > Other illegal activity concerns.
Bombard eBay so they will address the seller’s listing. Suggesting someone “pretend” to have a service dog is suggesting that they break the law.

  2. Looks like it’s been pulled, thank gosh! People abusing service dog rules is one of my biggest pet peeves! I really wish that it could be organized for people with legitimate service dogs so that there would be some standards that would start making abuses of the system harder to pull off.

    1. Houdstooth – are those whippet eyes? My dad’s service dog is a whippet. He got challenged a few times because whippets are not a traditional service breed. Shame on ebay and those who lie about their dogs. It’s called INTEGRITY folks . . .
