Animal Lovers Save Elderly Dog Abandoned in Woods

Senior deaf and blind dog finds herself all alone in the woods. Animal lovers rescue her and are now helping her live her retirement years.

A 13-year-old, deaf and blind Beagle mix dog gave her best years to her former family, but right before Christmas, her previous owners decided they had enough of the pet. The dog was tossed into the Thetford Forest in Suffolk, England, to live the rest of her life – if she could survive on her own. Thankfully, the senior dog was found and taken to a shelter.

The dog has been named Ivy. She had no collar or microchip and rescuers hoped the dog in the woods had been left there by accident. However, after placing Ivy on a seven-day hold, giving her owners a chance to come claim her, and after running a massive social media campaign to get the pooch back to her original home, animal rescuers learned the sad truth. No one wanted Ivy, and whoever threw her into the wood did it on purpose.

Kelly Smith, assistant manager for Dogs Trust Snetterton rehoming center told The Mirror that “the fact [Ivy] wasn’t wearing a collar or microchip and didn’t get claimed, leads [them] to believe that she was no longer wanted by her owners and dumped in a local forest without any thought of how this elderly dog would cope.”

No one knows how long Ivy was alone in the woods, but she was found in bad health. It is uncertain if she was tossed under those conditions or if her health worsen once she had to fend for herself. What’s for sure is that the elderly dog is being nursed back to heal by Dogs Trust Snetterton rehoming center, and they hope to place Ivy in a foster home while a forever retirement home is found. There, she will spend the rest of her days (if not years) surrounded by love.

  1. OMG!! How someone can do this to a fur baby let alone a fur baby that gives you the best years of their lives!!! Poor excuse for a human being! Many thanks to the guardian angel who rescued her!!

  2. These stories get worse and worse!! How can there be so many monsters walking this earth?! My god if you no longer wanted the poor thing drop her at a shelter I hope they are haunted by their decision :/ true monsters

  3. So nobody really knows how she ended up in the forest or who her previous owners are, but everyone is perpetuating a story like it is a fact, once again, to bring on the rabid “animal lovers” aka “people haters.” Truth is, no one has a clue as to this poor pup’s story, but she is safe now. Continuing to fuel the crazies with no facts whatsoever makes you part of the problem. Shame on you for what you ar trying to do. “Kelly Smith, assistant manager for Dogs Trust Snetterton rehoming center told The Mirror that “the fact [Ivy] wasn’t wearing a collar or microchip and didn’t get claimed, leads [them] to believe that she was no longer wanted by her owners and dumped in a local forest without any thought of how this elderly dog would cope.”

  4. That should be a criminal offence! If only there was a way to trace who dumped her. Let’s hope karma gets them for doing it.

  5. I never understand this type of cruelty when there is so many charity organised shelters which would happily take the dog in. Whether it was desperation or they just couldn’t be arsed… There is no excuse. Cruel!..

  6. While I think this is awful, I also think these inflammatory stories are horrible. They have no way of knowing what actually happened or how this dog ended up alone in the woods. Making up a story based on assumptions and then sharing it as fact is irresponsible journalism. I wish Ivy a wonderful forever home!

  7. Heartbreaking, hope it returns full force on that family. I’m no longer surprised at what humans are capable of doing to their pets. Thank you for rescuing her.

  8. Filthy evil peice of nothing I hope they suffer everyday then rot ,but please let someone show all the love possible to that poor little one xx

  9. It always boggles my mind when people abandon their senior dogs. They are the sweetest and best dogs —- they know all the expectations and hardly ever give you any grief -(except what life has to dole out) They just want to hang with you and be present in the moment. Glad people who care found this character.

  10. So glad this little soul was found in time. Hope she finds the forever home she deserves and if she was dumped as led to believe THERE IS NO EXCUSE! There are places that will take theses unwanted precious baby’s. Keep us informed!!!

  11. This makes me sick AND furious. My disdain for humans grows every time I hear stories like this. Thank God for those who rescued and are caring for that precious baby.

  12. Those owners deserve to be punished. Even if lets say… they have fallen on hard times and can’t care for this little one – take it to a shelter, a vet – dont just abandon it in the woods.

  13. WTF is the matter with ppl. Do they have no compassion anymore. 1 year or 13 years, this is a family member. It leads me to believe they’d toss a human away as well.
