On Feb 28, 2014, a 2-year-old, female, German shepherd was rescued from the bottom of a 15- to 20-foot shaft in Turlock Wastewater Plant in California.
It was almost midnight when Turlock Fire Department Engine 32 responded to an emergency call. When they arrived at the scene, they found the pet at the bottom of the shaft. The canine was scared and seemed uninjured.
It is unknown how the dog ended trapped there. The shaft is located in a zone that is currently under construction. A ladder was found in the hole, but it is used by plant personnel to go up and down the shaft.
Firefighters lowered a harness and a hero rescuer secured the pet. The dog was then safely hoisted out of the deep hole.
Hero rescuers named her Tyler and the pet was taken to Turlock Animal Control Center. Veterinarians examined her and found no injuries, tags or microchip.
If her owners don’t come forward to claim her, the dog will be available for adoption on March 6, 2014.
Anyone who recognizes the pet or is interested in adopting her should contact animal services at (209) 656-3140.
