Dog Abuser Arrested after Vet Turns Him In

A starving dog has been saved after the vet who was treating him turned in his owner for animal abuse.

The man brought in his five-month-old pit bull, Benz, to the Wauwatosa Veterinary Clinic in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a minor wound.  He told the vet there was a small lesion on the dog’s tail that he needed treatment, and that he planned to breed him.

The man left Benz to be treated, and said he would return in an hour or two.  The vet was appalled by the puppy’s condition, and was stunned that the owner brought him in for the least of his problems, and that he could expect him to breed in his poor state of health.

She called police when the owner left, and showed Benz to them when they arrived.  He was severely starved, with all rib and hip bones protruding.  He had to crouch, as he was unable to support his weight.  He had open sores on his lips, and his penis was discolored and bleeding.

Police asked the vet to call them when the man returned, and to stall him without letting on that the police would be turning up.  She did as directed, and all went according to plan.  The police were able to take the man into custody without resistance.

Pictures of his lamentable condition were taken, and Benz was turned over to Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control.

  1. The vet should have kept the dog. Sure turn the dog over to AC so he can be euthanized if nobody adopts him. The vet should have done the right thing and taken care of this animal. This makes me angry – as yes the man needed to be reported but EDUCATE the public – and certainly don’t send the dog to a kill shelter.

    Damn.

    • I’m with you. What was that vet thinking turning the dog over to a municipal AC? He has to be kept alive I think until legal proceedings are finished, but who says AC will give him the care he needs…Not happy about this aspect of things.

      • How do you expect the vet to keep the animal when the owner would be coming back? If the person abuses animals, do you think this is a safe person to tell, “So you suck at being an animal parent, I’m keeping your dog.”? Sure not everything happens how we’d like it to, but I see no fault in the vet calling the cops.

    • Why should the Vet take on the responsibility of this animal?? She did the appropriate thing. There is no way that a Vet can financially survive if they take on every pet that walks in the door. Vets and vet hospitals are not supported by the county or state. They love animals as much as you do, they maxed themselves out with giant college loans to be able to treat the animals that we all love so much. So, why don’t we do something about it??? Go adopt from the shelter??

      • In cruelty cases in some counties, dogs have to be held by the local animal control, even if they’re in horrible condition or about to give birth to puppies, etc. The vet didn’t have any legal right to keep the dog and nurse it back to health. This happens all the time with fight bust cases. Dogs that have been neglected have to stay in the shelter and under shelter supervision until a ruling is made.

But I do agree, that the vet acted on behalf of the dog in order to keep the animal away from it’s owner. Why don’t they punish those people? But most of the time our laws, will make the animals pay the price by putting it down too often. How is that proper and fair to the animal? but animals are helpless and they have to obey, so they suffer in silence. I hope that everyone who mistreats anything that is innocent, will have their day in court with a resposible judge who will prosecute to the fullest extend of the law. There is so much cruelty out there. I have seen it first hand and done something about it. I don’t just say oh Iam sorry, no I do something to help the animal.

  3. What the hell is wrong with this assholes that want to breed for money and not take care of the dogs you use! This is human and dog abuse!
The Vet did right calling the Police but she is in the wrong letting them take the dog to turn over to the Animal Abuse Control system they are over worked and I am sure that the dog will not get good care and will die in his condition if not adopted by a Care Giver to take care of Benz with proper feeding and all his care he needs for shots and ringworm tests since he is only a PUPPY OF 5 months old! You know the SOB did not bother to feed him what makes you think he will get all his shots and Heart Worm treatment along with his Rabies vaccinations! Come on if you know the Vet get info on where Benz was taken.
If I was close I would this is disgraceful even if the Vet was not going to make money on this poor soul she is a Coward to not want to take care of him until she found a good home for him. God will judge her it is only a matter of time!
As for the dog killer he can burn in hell and rot in jail for the rest of TIME!

    • God will judge her? Sounds like you are the judge and jury and have already condemned her to hell? Are you gonna be the first one in line to adopt this dog? If not, are you gonna burn in hell?

      • Hear hear Ashley, Vets cannot keep every animal that they examine, just because they don’t like the care the owner provides. For goodness sake, Valerie, they’d end up with a zoo. The ONLY way she could help was by involving authorities-do you really think the owner would have just given her the dog? He would have taken it back and its suffering would continue. Be realistic, there is not a perfect end to every story; the vet did exactly the right thing and all that she could. The last thing she needs is ignorant criticism.

  4. This is awful. This poor dog faces an unfair fate. He’s probably wondering what he did to deserve abuse, and now he faces almost certain death. My heart is breaking for this poor animal. I am pissed!!!

  5. How could she not treat this dog! He will surely die now. She did not save the dog,,,she just got the man who did it to him. But she also killed the dog!

    • Are you serious right now? The Vet can not just take someones pet away. She is not law enforcement. She followed the proper procedures.
