Five months ago Lucky went missing from his home in Los Angeles. On Monday an animal control officer in Sacramento picked up Lucky when he was found wandering the streets almost 400 miles away from his home.

After bringing Lucky to the Sacramento city shelter a scan revealed his microchip and the fact that he had come all the way from Los Angeles. No one is quite sure how Lucky made it all the way to Sacramento, but he will now be headed safely home to Los Angeles.

Lucky’s owner got the phone call every owner of a missing pet wants, her dog was found and was safe. Lucky will be flown home on Sunday thanks to Wings of Rescue, an all-volunteer organization that helps fly animals from high-kill shelters to rescue organizations. Making the reunion even sweeter Lucky will arrive home on his owner’s birthday.
