meatballMeatball is Joe McCarty’s best friend. When the McCarty family adopted Meatball they knew he was special. They had no idea though that Meatball would save Joe’s life.

McCarty adopted Meatball in August after he was rescued by soldier Darren Gainer in Afghanistan and brought back to the United States. Joe is paralyzed on his left side, the firefighter has suffered multiple strokes. Last week Joe was in the basement when 9-month-old Meatball did something remarkable.

Joe’s wife Kim  was upstairs when she heard meatball barking non-stop. “I ran down the steps and when I got down here I saw Joe on the couch and Meatball perched on top of him. Joe was in what appeared to be a full blown seizure,” she said. Meatball was licking Joe’s face and refused to leave Joe’s side. Even though he has no formal training Meatball seemed to know exactly what to do.

The McCarty’s are so proud of Meatball and all he has done for Joe. “He saved my husband’s life,” said Kim.
