FDNY firefighters rescued a dog on Thursday night after it fell from a pier at the South Street Seaport.

According to one witness, the dog fell after breaking free of its owner’s grasp and running. A crowd gathered as the dog struggled to keep its head above water after falling in. Fortunately for the waterlogged pooch, the FDNY was already on the scene to monitor a fireworks show, and cameras were rolling as bystanders applauded the rescue.

  1. well done to the wonderful FDNY, thank God for them… who brings their dog to a fireworks show in the first place?? He probably got spooked and ran away cause he was scared. Did you see the owners walking him at the very end of the video?? They were laughing about the whole thing, not very funny, if you ask me…idiots.

  3. Probably terrified with the fireworks going off…dogs and fireworks don’t work…leave the pups at home. Hats off to the FDNY!

  4. With the 4th of July approaching it’s wise to remember that dogs and fireworks DON”T MIX. Leave your dogs at home and if they’re spooked by the noise, prepare for that in advance by leaving them crated or having someone stay at home with them.
