As far as Jennifer Matteson’s second grade class is concerned, school is cool, thanks in part to their favorite four-legged visitor. These youngsters prefer learning to read in the company Abby, a patient Golden Retriever enrolled in the wildly popular R.E.A.D (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) program.

Tufts Paws for People facilitates the READ program, which is now part of the curriculum at the Marguerite E. Peaslee Elementary School in Northborough, Massachusetts. As part of its mission, Paws for People assists dogs and their owners in achieving registration as a R.E.A.D. dog.
