A Malinois named Vhoebe soared to a new dock jumping record at yesterday’s Purina Incredible Dog Challenge, held at the San Diego County Fair.

The three year old dog jumped 31-feet-5-inches, breaking the previous record of 31-feet-2-inches. “It was unbelievable,” said Lisa Strum, Vhoebe’s owner. “This really is her joy. If she could tell me what she’s passionate about, it’d be this.” The San Diego events calendar is almost always full, with happenings that range from major concerts to dog shows scheduled regularly.

Entrants ran the length of a 40 foot dock as owners threw toys into the 40 foot pool designed for the competition.

This is Vhoebe’s second record performance. Last year the water loving athlete broke a record with a 31-foot, 1-inch jump.  Days later a dog in St. Louis broke her record by one inch, which stood until yesterday’s competition.

  1. What a remarkable athlete!

Of course she is just having fun so for her this is kids play. Or maybe in this case, I should call it pup’s play.

  2. It will always be the Del Mar Fair to me. So bumbed they decided to do this on opening week-end! 31.5, that is truly insane! Malinois are the IT dog right now, and well deserved.

  3. She needs a bigger pool! Loved the comment, “she’s got a bit of a crazy streak in her” — she’s a *Malinois*! Of course she does (that’s part of why we love them). My Mal Shep sends his regards.
