In Illinois, Rev. David Reasby is beaming from ear to ear. After a fire ripped through his church on Friday, his beloved pooch was found alive inside the church four days later.

Arson inspectors had just completed an investigation and as they walked through the Lighthouse Full Gospel Baptist Church, Lil Bit, the chihuahua, followed the group out of the building. Reasby believed that Lil Bit had perished in the fire.

“She was hungry, thirsty, dirty, her eyes were matted, but she survived,” Reasby says.

Lil Bit has been with Reasby and his family for over 10 years. They had been contemplating placing a cross and flowers outside the building in memory of their dog.

“I cried,” Reasby said of seeing the dog alive. “You hear about people who love their animals like their children, like a part of their families. That’s what Lil Bit was to us, a member of the family.”
