Six months ago, Yumenosuke, a dog rescued from a Japanese shelter was just a scared little pup. He would constantly shake and soil himself, but with love and training, the shelter dog who barely made eye contact, transformed into a brave rescue dog.
Yumenosuke was almost euthanized, but he was rescued in the nick of time.
His transformation took time. At the beginning, the scared dog was very withdrawn. He didn’t trust anyone, but after months of training and learning that there were humans in this world he could count on, the little dog’s fears faded and his confidence grew.
NPO Peace Winds Japan trained the shelter dog to become a rescue dog. His new found confidence and skill sets were put to the test last month when he went on his first rescue mission in Hiroshima City.
After the city was hit with a powerful rain storm, devastating landslides left many residents trapped in mud. Yumenosuke and his handler set off to find and rescue survivors, and the little dog proved he was ready to do the job he was trained for.
Yumenosuke was once a dog in need of rescue, but today he is the one rescuing others in need.
NPO Peace Winds Japan wants people to know about Yumenosuke because they want to encourage people to adopt shelter dogs. Shelter dogs are not broken dogs. Their lives are worth saving because you never know when a shelter dog will return the favor and save your life.
