Back on 5/14/2015 we brought you the touching story of Emma, a dog that became an orphan thanks to the deadly tornadoes that struck Texas.  If you’d like to see the original story, you can click here.

David Tapley, his wife Brenda, and two of their dogs tragically lost their lives in an EF3 tornado that touched down near their home in Van, Texas.  However, there is a silver lining:  one of their dogs was found alive, cradled in the crook of David’s arm.

Today, Emma is now with her new forever family.  Thanks to the efforts of the amazing staff at Nicolas Pet Haven, and in particular her new human Missy Shockley, she can begin her second chance at life.

While volunteering with Nicolas Pet Haven, Shockley fell in love with Emma.  It was a match made in heaven, or Haven in this case.

“She didn’t want to [come out] so I climb back into the pickup and started loving on her and she came into my lap,” said Shockley.  “Knowing what she went through, knowing that they lost their lives, maybe she was put in my hands for a reason.”

Nicolas Pet Haven made a post to their Facebook page this past Sunday about Emma’s adoption.

“Here is Emma on the way to her new home with Missy Shockley one of our own volunteers who has been there for us day and night!  Thanks Missy!!!”
