The waters in Texas are rising and its shelters are sadly becoming overrun with abandoned dogs. A organization in Lakewood, CO, is stepping into alleviate some of burden of their Texas partners-in-rescue.
“It’s a pretty urgent situation down there,” Deb Hill, Executive Director of Homecomings Dog Rescue, told Denver’s Fox31. “The shelter director called me and said, ‘We are in deep trouble.’”
The rescue has been working with the now flood-crowded Stephens County Animal Shelter for quite some time. The floundering oil sector, she says, has resulted in many people losing jobs and abandoning their pets as a result. Now, some of these pooches are quite literally in over their heads. While the Texas shelter is dry so far, the waters have plagued the nearby town of Breckenridge. Instead, they have been flooded with dogs.

On Friday they transported a total of 17 dogs north to Lakewood. While fosters were on-hand to receive the animals, Hill and her cohorts hope that adoption events this weekend will aid in finding the animals forever homes.
