Boredom Busters

This is well worth a watch if you have a bored pooch on your hands. There are a number of ways to challenge and stimulate your dog, but finding activities that engage your dog and hold its attention can be elusive. Dr. Marty Becker explores products designed to do just that, and he may very well save you some furniture stuffing or shoes in the process. It’s not a short video – you may want to bookmark it and come back when you have eight minutes to devote to it. Your dog will thank you.

Shiver is obsessed with the tennis balls he got from a recent Paw It Forward. He carries it everywhere and gets upset that I won’t let him take them outside. So that keeps him pretty occupied.

Neither of my boys are very interested in kongs. I’ve shown them that they contain treats which they love but they just don’t seem to care about it once the treat is gone.

Oh, Morgan is going to thank you for this! I already know ours love the Kong, and we have some great puzzle cubes, but it’s always fun to bring them back out.

I have to say we don’t have any boredom issues at all. Between their walks and outings our guys just hang around and chill. Daughter’s Chihuahua was one of the busiest bodies one can imagine. However, when we introduced her to our schedule, she changed completely and joined our guys in chilling :-) She would even sleep on the floor, something that was unheard of with her! LOL

I do think that interactive toys can be invaluable though. When I gave Jasmine’s best buddy one of these for x-mas, he refused eating his food from the bowl He insisted in having to work the toy in order to eat! :-)

This is how we feed our dogs now. They have a food puzzle and 2 different balls that we put their kibble in. And sometimes we hide their food in diff. places so they can find it like an Easter egg hunt!! They love it. Cassie

We love it. Yup. Uh huh. We do.

I do have two bored pooches on my paws. I thought if I had a large pack we’d keep each other busy, but it’s a myth.
    Shh, watching video now…

Thanks for sharing this video. I actually have almost all of the toys he mentioned, but I need to check out the few we don’t have already. My Sheltie loves to keep busy. :)

Dr Becker, Can we follow this one up with a note about parasite prevention? I toss kibble out in the yard here for my dogs, but we do have bunnies, deer , Raccoon, coyote, fox, turkey etc etc…and so I keep my dogs vaccinated against Lepto & Rabies AND I de-worm them twice a year, because I worry about what else they are eating from the grass. We only do the forage in the yard thing once in a while, since we have a full closet of food puzzles, but the dogs do love to “picnic” in the yard!
