Basset Hound Eats 31 Nails, House Siding, Rabies Tag

How is this for a strange  snack attack? A dog in Colorado got quite a stomachache after nosing around in the yard. Her owner says the Basset Hound gobbled up a bunch of rusty nails that the family’s other dog dug up.

He swallowed 31 nails in all, but that was just the beginning. An x-ray uncovered the Basset Hound also devoured some siding from the house and her own rabies tags.

The vet warned the owner, once dogs taste metal and like it, they’ll keep trying to eat it.

I have heard of that before…if a dog get the taste of metal, and likes it, they will devour everything they can get their mouths around. Thank goodness I don’t have this problem…..

Unfortunately dogs don’t remember the surgery following their indulgences.

Another reason for a dog chewing on nails, etc., could be stress, or it could be a reinforced behavior as a result of the owners’ repeated efforts to prevent the dog from chewing on these items. Glad the dog is okay!

Here’s an idea. Why don’t they clean up their damn yard? It’s the owners fault this happend.

I could totally see my dad’s very first beagle doing this. She ate anything and everything, including my glasses! I expected to be yelled at because I wasn’t wearing them (I was a teenager at the time) but my parents didn’t say anything to me, they were more worried about the dog.

Our yard was very clean. These nails had been buried for at least 6 years with out our knowledge. We are new homeowners of only a year. This wasn’t our fault. We love our dogs and would never intentionally let this happen.
