The Patrick Miracle

One day before St. Patrick’s Day, an emaciated red pit bull mix was discovered in a trash bag at the bottom of a Newark apartment building garbage chute.

Patrick, as he was later named by the Humane Society, was brought to the Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls where he received immediate care. Patrick was treated by specialists who determined that he was found just hours from death.

This extreme case of cruelty has enraged dog lovers around the globe, and the Garden State Veterinary Specialist clinic has been inundated with donations and inquires about Patrick. Doctors say that if he continues to improve and recovers completely, the Humane Society will arrange for his adoption. In the meantime, those interested in following his progress can find updates on his Facebook page: The Patrick Miracle.

So hard to look at the poor boy! We hope he is able to make a full recovery – we saw his crossed paws when he was in someone’s arms there – we are going to cross ours for him too.

Why is it that the Humane society and SPCA takes the abused and unwanted pets and animals in and puts them behind bars instead of taking the abusers/killers in and putting them in cages??? Giving them a select time to be put down???!!!!

I know the building the dog was found at. Its the projects filled with gang members, junkies, etc and its a shame that more than 1/2 the population in that building does not even take care for there kids well being never the less an animal. Its so sad. My heart breaks for not only the animals but for the children that are all subject to such a low life.

      @ heather,
i don’t know what “patrick” should weigh, but my buddy, “ranger” just went up to the vets for his second rabies shot, the 3 year one, and he weighed just over 75 lbs, happy and healthy. his mom and two sisters also live here, they’re smaller, with “kimmy” as the “runt of the litter” but they’re all within the range of 50 to 60 lbs, and the vet was satisfied with their condition. i hope that “patrick” regains full health and weight and finds a home where folks enjoy his good qualities, in spite of all he’s been through he sounds like a good hearted dog deserving good people to live with.

As I wipe the tears from my eyes I realize that Patrick’s story shows the best and worst of humans. The worst being the person(s) responsible for doing this horrid thing to him, and I do hope they find them; and the best being all the amazing, wonderful, kind, and good people helping and loving Patrick. And it is obvious that the best far outweigh the worst.

Our hearts go out to Patrick. His eyes are incredibly expressive and show a beautiful Soul residing in his tiny body. Patrick, we pray for your healing and recovery. Much love being sent your way.

I cried so hard and became so angry at the person that did this. People know there are shelters, rescues, and foster care should one need to surrender their dog however; it is when people show no compassion and treat their family pet like garbage only tells the world they are monsters.

Patrick has the best care and is surrounded by lots of love and will get adopted. I wish I could have him however; I think 3 Pit Bulls are enough for now.

Thank you Garden State Veterinary Specialist for helping Patrick.

We read the stories of dogs like Patrick and Pearson – and our hearts yearn to help, to adopt them. But Patrick needs only one home; dogs like him euthanized every minute of every day. Take the caring that Patrick has wakened and share it with another shelter pet in need. Take your anger towards Patrick’s abusers and channel it into making this world a better place for animals and people. We cannot stop until they all have homes, and none have to suffer and die. Go out and make a difference.

I really can’t wait to hear about the arrest of the disppicapal person/persons that did this. My hopes are that all of the attention and news that Patrick is getting will hopefully make officials see that we need better laws in place to protect our four legged friends. We have to be their voices, lets make it happen. Love and prayers to all the Patrick’s in the world, won’t everyone please adopt.

Dear wee Patrick, Kia kaha (stay strong) sweetheart. There are many beautiful loving people in the world who would never have treated you in the terrible inhumane way the person who had you did. That person will be punished for the cruel way she treated you. You are a precious soul and humans are learning so much from you already. If I was in Newark I would come and be your bestest friend and give you lots of love, walkies and good food. I live in Australia and my heart has been deeply touched by you wee man. You are a survivor. I am also a survivor of abuse. Stay strong precious wee love and know that you are in the hearts and thoughts of many good decent people throughout the world who want and wish only a good and happy life for you. XXXXXXXXXXXX

I have followed Patrick’s care every step of the way as if he was my dog. What I have tried to find in my searches to see how he is doing, is a petition, something, anything to work on getting abuse like this stopped. We all know this case isn’t ordinary, extremely sad, but it happens over and over, for some reason Patrickt received more acknowledgement than other cases. What can be done. Is there a petition going around to change the laws?

I don’t do Facebook so maybe on Patrick’s FB page there is more current info. Despite the fact that the following statement was issued by the NJ authorities just a few days ago, local news reports indicate that the woman who did this just had her bail dismissed and she is out of jail. Here’s what the NJ authorities said a couple of days ago and then inexplicably let her out of the slammer with no bail required:
“Col. Frank Rizzo of the NJ SPCA: “Please let this serve as an update on the Patrick the Pitbull case against Kisha Curtis. After careful consideration, we have decided to upgrade the charges against Ms. Curtis from disorderly persons offenses to indictable offense 4:22-17 (b)1 – torment & torture. The public must know that we will not tolerate this kind of behavior towards animals in the State of N J and we will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. ”

Yeah I can sure see how the New Jersey authorities are real interested in upholding the law. HAHAHAHA so funny I FORGOT to laugh.

Nope. There is no justice, criminals are pretty much all rewarded and animals (and humans) continue to suffer while the criminals continue to win.

Please check facts before sharing inaccurate information. The woman was arrested and she is currently out of jail becuase she posted her BAIL. This is part of the justice system. The NJ authorities are doing everything they can within the LAW. If you have issues with this law, and many of us do, help push for the laws to be changed.

First of all I am not a NJ resident so I can’t personally push to have NJ laws revised. However, I am part of a group who does this in my area. Second, I am quoting directly from local NJ news sources who reported that the bail had been “dismissed” that was the word they used – local online newspaper in that town – the words used were not “met bail” or “paid her bail” or “bail was paid.” The word used was DISMISSED. If you have solid quotable reporting please provide it.

Words are missing to tell my feeling.
I hope patrick will go better and better, not difficult while seeing the first photos.
Thanks for those who get him feel good today.

    Dear Patrick,

I hope that you continue to improve and find a loving family that you deserve. I am so sorry that this has happened to you. There are really nasty people out there and I hope they are caught and put in jail. We all love you !!!!

Everyone should at least send this woman a Facebook message. Although I think by now she has probably received so many that she probably isn’t reading them anymore. There is a link to her page here: http://www.truecrimereport.com/2011/03/kisha_curtis_charged_with_star.php

Patrick has such a pretty face. How could his owner have tortured him?!

Patrick est devenu un superbe chien pesant 55 livres! De plus, il est entre les mains du Dr. Scavelli et de son épouse qui le considère comme un membre de la famille. Bravo mon beau Patrick et longue vie à toi!

    Gros bisous,
    Danielle, de Montréal, Canada.
