Investigation Finds NY Pet Stores Supplied by Puppy Mills

A recent NBC New York investigation has revealed that a number of pet stores throughout New York continue to purchase animals from puppy mills.

Held in cruel confinement for the sake of profit, mill dogs languish in conditions unfit for any sentient being, and a growing number of pet buyers are seeking out reputable breeders in order to avoid supporting mill breeding. And while many assume that chain pet stores are the worst offenders, the majority of the stores investigated by NBC were independent retailers.

To make matters worse, a recent HSUS investigation found that the majority of more than 100 New York pet stores were routinely buying stock from mill breeders.

In comparing shipping records to inspection reports from the U.S.D.A., it became clear that many stores were buying puppies from mills that had been cited for USDA violations.

Great job news 4. If the news and media keep exposing these puppy mills then maybe law makers would do something and stop these horrible places. What a shame that here in the U.S. where we claim to be humane that the people and the law makers can’t stop mills. I think that with a little effort it could be done.

Don’t buy puppies from pet stores. Come on, it’s not that hard. Don’t spend $$ in pet stores that sell dogs. Think before spending money about where that money goes and who it supports.

Excellent report! No REPUTABLE breeder would EVER sell their puppies to pet stores! Adopt from rescues and shelters. If you want a certain breed, there’s a rescue for every breed you can think of. Go to Petfinder dot com to find your perfect new family member.

How many ordinary *read: gullible* consumers would listen to those independent pet store clerks while they look them in the eye say that they don’t buy their dogs from puppy mills. Yeah, most of them would.

Point: do NOT buy from pet stores, independent or chains, that sell puppies.
