Created by dog vacation pro Janice Costa, Canine Camp Getaway will offer a host of dog-friendly activities and classes, from hiking, agility, Frisbee and lure coursing to canine freestyle dancing, scent detection, flyball, Canine CPR, Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog preparation and testing, “Barks & Crafts” and swimming in the dog-friendly pool. Seminars by a staff of top veterinarians, dog trainers, behavior and nutrition experts will round out the dog-centric offerings.

They’re “human friendly” too, with all the vacation amenities you cherish — like private baths, air conditioning, cable TV, wi-fi, fine dining (with a special dog-friendly section of the dining room), nighttime entertainment in the bar/lounge, and even an on-site spa! If you’d like to explore further afield, the neighboring town offers golfing, boating, outlet shopping, antiquing and more.

Costa, who lives by the motto, “Have dogs, will travel,” got into the dog vacation business several years ago due to the limited dog vacation options she found for herself and her own two dogs – both of whom have proudly taken on the role of “ambassadogs” for Canine Camp Getaway.

“In response to the growing pet-owning demographic, more travel destinations are now allowing pets, but few truly welcome them. I’ve spent several years working to change that by creating the kind of vacations where dogs can have as much fun as their owners do. And with Canine Camp Getaway of NY, dog lovers get the best of both worlds – a vacation where they can take their dog everywhere from the hiking trails to the swimming pool to the bar…but where they can also enjoy all the amenities of a relaxing vacation, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Adirondack Mountains.”

Costa, who writes a “Traveling Tails” blog that addresses everything from pet travel safety tips to top dog-friendly vehicles, has been working with dogs for nearly a decade, planning dog vacations, evaluating dogs for the AKC Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dogs programs, writing for dog magazines, running pet food drives for local shelters, hosting dog social groups and speaking at dog shows and events.

Canine Camp Getaway of NY will run from June 24-28, 2012. Reservations are being taken now and an Early Bird Discount is available to attendees who book by January 15th.
