Dog Saves Abandoned Newborn Baby

A loyal canine has earned hero status after he was found cradling an abandoned baby that he had spent the night protecting. According to authorities, a two week old child was discovered under a bridge in Winkongo, near Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional Capital of Ghana, after being forsaken by its mother.
Left alone in a hostile environment, the baby did not have to fend for itself – it was saved by a local farm dog.
Officials say the two were found together many hours after the dog went missing. A search party spent the night combing area fields and forests in pursuit of the wandering canine, but it was not until morning that they made a stunning discovery when they found him under the bridge, near the farm, with a human baby nuzzled against him.
The remarkable tale was reported by Madam Rosemary Azure, Talensi-Nabdam District Director of Health, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.
According to Madam Azure, the chief of police said the vulnerable youngster had been abandoned by its mother for reasons unknown before being saved by the dog. His umbilical cord was still uncut and had been infected, but the young child was otherwise unscathed after spending the night with the protective canine.
A local health directorate has taken custody of the child until a new home can be found for him.

That is so cool how dogs can sense when someone is in danger of getting hurt and all. I hate the people who think of dogs as just pets when they at least to me and also to the ones who they save are a whole lot more then that they are family members and such and also the best friends that any human can be more then happy to have along with cats also! Animals are the best and I for one would never trade them for all the money in the world and stories like this one make me see just how special they are more and more every day! Hope he got a big treat for what he did and also hope that precious baby gets a great new home maybe even with it’s savior dog, You never know! Animals are better then humans, you can be mean, mistreat them, neglect them and they will still be loyal and loving to you. They understand when someone saves their lives even though people may not believe that. They will always protect you in the best way they can, they know when you are hurt or sad and they are their for you, I have seen countless stories of dogs saving the lives of abandoned babies, They love the human race so much they protect babies they don’t even have a connection to. They would die for us and most people out there get rid of their pets when they get a new boyfriend or girlfriend who doesn’t like them.. If only we were so lucky to be more like animals.

A truly wonderful dog, but before abusing the mother, consider that she may have been terrified, hiding pregnancy from the strictest of parents, and unable to think straight. It’s not so many decades ago that frightened girls in this country sometimes gave birth and ran away!

Wonderful story, but what jumps out at me is a farmer in Ghana getting together a search party to find a farm dog? And looking all night? Dogs are a dime a dozen there. I find it a little hard to believe. And where is the picture of the dog? Could this be just a story? I believe the baby was abandoned but the rest of it sounds unreal. And trust me, I am a dog lover and can believe that a dog would do this, just saying the circumstances don’t seem to add up.
I also thought it strange about the search party, unless they were talking about the family. They also said there was a forest near by and maybe they were worried for the dog and predators.

Hey. If it was in Ghana she was a raped and scared girl. It was not her fault. She was not thinking clearly. The mother was scared. She was just a girl that was raped. She also had to hide her pregnancy from her parents. Then she gave birth after hiding the pregnancy. Then she abandoned the baby. But it was not her fault. The baby is okay now thanks to the dog.
i am amazed at how many of you are amazed!?? this is how dogs are they are nothing but love,, they protect always the loved ones.this is no surprise i was raised with dogs always i have many now.if a dog is brought up in a loving environment ANY BREED if you neglect or tie them up it makes them mean and broken hearted. that baby was very lucky the hero was there! theres a lesson to be learned. good luck to the child

just to fill in blanks, the baby was likely abandoned by a very young teenager – the rate of teen pregnancy in that area is through the roof. the mother very likely gave birth alone and unassisted and there’s a good chance she is at least suffering infection, if not already dead.
