chiquitaChiquita the skateboarding Chihuahua was rescued from a shelter last summer. Now she and her new dad are helping to raise money for animal adoptions.

Chiquita’s original owner had to surrender the 6-year-old dog for financial reasons. When Joe Cockrell saw a photo and video of her on her scooter he knew he had to meet her. He went to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center to meet her and immediately knew she was the dog for him.

Chiquita’s scooter riding is not only cute, but helps her with her health. She has a birth defect that gives her hip pain after long walks. This is part of the reason she loves her scooter so much. The added benefit is that Chiquita’s talent draws a lot of attention. Cockrell saw this as an opportunity to pay it back.

“Chiquita the #ScootPooch gets a lot of attention, which I want to turn into $10,000 for dog foster and rescue this year,” Cockrell wrote in his blog.

Cockrell is planning on using social media to help raise the money. Every time a photo of Chiquita is posted on social media with the hashtag #ScootPooch a private donor will give one dollar towards the campaign.

Whenever Chiquita goes out for a scooter ride a crowd gathers and many ask to take pictures. Cockrell is hoping all this attention will help him reach his goal. He also will accept cash donations from people they meet out on their scooter rides. Every dollar collected for the campaign will go to support foster programs for shelter in LA and Orange County.

You can help the campaign by posting a photo of Chiquita on our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hash tag #ScootPooch or visit Chiquita’s Facebook page to donate directly.
