In the days before Hurricane Irma made landfall, shelters all over Florida prepared for what they knew would be an influx of animals by evacuating those already in their shelters to others outside the storm zone.

Harold, a senior Mastiff mix, was moved from the city shelter in Jacksonville and into the care of the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) in Louisville, along with 47 other animals in need of homes.

When he arrived, Harold was heartworm positive, underweight and had an eye infection, but thanks to a grant from the Grey Muzzle Organization, KHS has been treating him for the heartworm, healed his eye with antibiotics and placed him into a safe, loving foster home where he is patiently waiting for his forever family.

What a mug! Harold was evacuated from a shelter in Jacksonville ahead of Hurricane Irma. He’s now in Louisville, KY, looking for his forever home.

Harold, says his foster, is an easygoing, loving dog who enjoys going for walks and meeting new people. Most of all, they say, he loves snoozing on his giant dog bed and enjoying the attention of his foster family.

Now that he’s been through two rounds of heartworm meds, he’s ready to find a “foster-to-adopt” home. KHS will continue to pay for his heartworm medication until he tests negative — so no added expense for the lucky person who takes him!
