While entertaining a wedding crasher isn’t at the top of every couple’s list, once in awhile a stranger shows up who ends up making the celebration extra sweet.

Such was the case for Matheus and Marilia. The couple were saying their vows at a beautiful ceremony in São Paulo, Brazil. Although they’d planned on an outdoor wedding, inclement weather had driven the party into a large tent. All their friends and family had gathered to bear witness to the nuptials when an extra guest came in, trying to escape the bad weather: a stray dog.

Although shooed away at first, the pup was adamant about making himself at home amid the good vibes of the wedding, eventually finding his way to the long bridal train of Marilia herself, where he made himself comfortable as she recited her vows!

Marilia, hardly a Bridezilla, wasn’t angry — she was charmed!

“It was a very pleasant surprise for me, because I love animals,” she told The Dodo. “I liked it very much.” Eventually, with the rain subsiding, the stray dog ventured out of the reception and back to the streets.

She and Matheus were disappointed; they’d hoped to rescue him. But fate smiled on their union and they managed to track him down! Now named Snoop, he is a part of their new family.

“He came home, and I showered him,” Marília recalled. “He played a lot, ate, drank water. He is very happy and slept super good the first night.”

Their fairy tale wedding—captured in gorgeous shots by photographer Felipe Paludetto—now has a storybook ending.
