In Pittsford, NY, the hunt for Meggie, a gorgeous 5-year old Shetland sheepland or sheltie, continues. On July 1st, while Meggie’s family was on holiday in England, Meggie ran away from home. Jenny Lloyd and Connie Gates, her owners, have been papering the area with flyers, placed ads in newspapers and on lost dog webstites, and have offered a reward for Meggie’s safe return. Food has been set out for her but still no luck.

There have been numerous sightings of Meggie but because Meggie is a “nervous dog,” she does not go to strangers. And thanks to the media and Meggie’s Facebook page, there are many strangers, new friends, and others who are searching for her. Members of several dog rescue groups have also joined search. There’s even a text list of about 30 people who are ready to mobilize if they get word that Meggie has been spotted.

“It has consumed our entire life,” said Jenny, a retired history professor.

Meggie wouldn’t even go to her owners when Connie and Jenny were sent out to a place where Meggie had been seen. They hope that Meggie will wander into a fenced yard and that a gate can be closed behind her.

“We’ve built this small community (of searchers),” Connie said, grateful for the help. The hunt for Meggie continues.
