Dozer, a three-year-old pit bull, was stolen from the Atteboro Animal Shelter in Massachusetts on Friday night. Dozer has been a resident of the shelter for 14 months. The shelter volunteers spent all weekend posting fliers all over southeastern Massachusetts and into Rhode Island, searching for the beloved dog. On Sunday morning Dozer was found and shelter volunteers went and picked him up in Providence, Rhode Island.

Shelter workers found a trail of evidence on Saturday morning of how Dozer had been stolen. They believe the suspect snapped the barbwire on top of his cage and hopped the fence to get the dog. They do not believe the suspect worked alone. The workers were very concerned for Dozer who is very friendly to humans but does not get along well with other dogs. “We feared the worst that someone was going to take him for possible fighting or something of that nature so we went into full mode,” Kim Penque, president of the Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter, said. Full mode meant putting up nearly 2700 fliers around town, offering a $1500 reward for his return and searching and getting the word out all over Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The shelter received a tip that Dozer was in Providence, Rhode Island and 10 of the Attleboro Animal Shelter volunteers went down to get him. The case is still an ongoing investigation so not much else is known about his rescue. Dozer was happy and in good health upon his return. Volunteers will be working to improve the shelter to make sure incidents like this can’t happen again.
