This past week, rain has been falling in Texas hard enough to cause devastating floods to sweep through many areas.  Volunteers with an airboat were taking a sheriff and a news crew around to evacuate stragglers.  They came across a dog who had been abandoned, chained up to a porch.  She nearly drowned, but now she’s got offers flooding in to adopt her.

Fort Bend County has been hit especially hard, as the Brazos River has risen to record heights. Sheriff Troy Nehls, reporter Phil Archer, and photographer Jeovany Luna were riding in an airboat crewed by volunteers Jeff Shimek and Richard Allen when they spotted the dog.

She could scarcely hold her head above the rising water. Archer and Shimek jumped in to save her.  On another trip, Allen, Shimek, and Nehls rescued five more abandoned dogs.

“This is infuriating. These residents will get a visit from me when they return,” Sheriff Nehls said.

Just picked up this sweet dog.
BIG thanks to
KPRC2 Phil ArcherKPRC2 / Click2HoustonSheriff Troy E. Nehls, & Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office for saving this girl. She was minutes away from drowning, left tied to a porch and her head was barely above the water line.

She’s headed back to the shelter now for some much needed R&R. We’re going to get her cleaned up, fed (although I hear the Sheriff shared a ham sandwich with her earlier), vaccinated, and settled in for the night.

If you are interested in adopting, please email [email protected]. It will be a few days before she is available, but we can certainly get your application processed.
