Lucy Needs a Home for the Holidays

A heartbreaking Petfinder listing landed in our inbox last evening. Meet Lucy, a battered, disfigured, loving dog from Bogota, Colombia.

Lucy has been relocated to the US after being rescued from a life of torment. We’re in no position to bring a new dog into our home, and are hoping that by spreading the word about where she came from, we’ll help her to find her way to a new, loving home. Her Petfinder listing info:

“Hi my name is Lucy! I’ve was rescued from the streets of Bogota, Colombia and lived in a foster home over there for about 6 months before coming to the U.S. Prior to my rescue I was beaten by my former owner so badly that my nose and jaw were broken. Both body parts have already healed, but since they never set properly this gave me my uniquely good looks and character. What do you think?

Unfortunately not much can be done about my face unless they break the bones and reset them again, not sure I want to go through that. Whoever did this to me also pulled out some of my canine teeth so I could not fight off the many male dogs that would repeatedly mate with me when I was in heat. Yeah I know, this is a terrible way to live. But although I was used as a breeding machine, by my lucky stars, I somehow got away. Then I was living on the streets, alone, emaciated and pregnant. Then that’s when my angel found me.

Sadly, I’m currently living in boarding and would love to break out of here. If interested in adopting or fostering me please contact my rescue by clicking here Please note that I’m currently staying in NY, and a home visit is required for adoption! Woof!”

  2. I should love to have welcomed her into my home and my land, she would have had a wonderful time here. Sadly I live in the UK, so it is not possible.
Goodness only knows what she went through and my heart bleeds for her and her sad life. How can people do this to an innocent animal?
I hope someone will love her and take her into their home and their heart.

  3. I would take her in a minute. Really. We have a big fenced in yard (we live on two acres and have fenced a big part of it for our dogs). If she were closer I would take her. Good luck Lucy and I will say a prayer that you have a forever home soon.
    Keep us posted!

    • Perhaps you and whoever she is living with now could find someone or some way to transport her….I’m sure she would love to share a home with you!

        • There are people that are willing to transport for sake of the animal. Its like a network chain. Apply see what happens.

        • Set up an account and ask for transportation donations…people do it all the time..let me know I will donate. Have 5 @ my house now, or I also would take her…she looks like such a sweet dog. I’d like to take a bat to who ever did this to her.

          • Did you see that the posting mentioned there would be a home visit to potential adopters???
            NO TRANSPORT!!!

          • If you set up an account to get donations to transport her, I will contribute and I know tons of other who would too. She deserves a good home and family after all she’s been through. I live in a rental and have 2 rescued dogs and a cat already, we aren’t allowed any more pets. I will help her get to a good home though if possible!

        • There are animal transport organizations that do just this. If anyone wants to adopt her but lives too far, set up a Chipin for transport. I would gladly donate.

    • I hope that those who don’t get to adopt Lucy will adopt another and take them home for the holidays. I have adopted two dogs and two cats and they are the best friends in the world to have.
