Not all dogs are created equal. Some are born to delight, to comfort, to bring joy to every day. Some teach us lessons in patience and persistence, while others chip away at scarred, closed hearts with their unquestionable love and dedication.

And then there are the Heroes. That rare dog born with such drive and courage, that it can only be fulfilled through a life of service. Within that hero breed (for heroes come in many shapes and sizes) exists the truly exceptional canine: The disaster search and rescue dog.

  1. What can you say? These dogs and their people were just so awesome. I remember the call for booties for the dogs’ paws among the wreckage. Truly sad and wonderful.
