Controlled Chaos: Pack Feeding at Cheverny

With three dogs in our house, dinner time can get a little busy around the food bowl, with elbowing and jockeying for position a regular part of the ritual. There are never any hard feelings, and that amazes me when you consider that two of the three are Labs – a breed known for their love of all things food.

As we consider adding another dog to the mix this spring, I often wonder if the newbie will figure out the pecking order when it comes to feeding time. If not, I think I’ve found the perfect highlight reel for training: if these hungry hunting dogs from The Château de Cheverny can get along while sharing a meal, I think we’re going to be just fine. 🙂

  1. This is terrible, but if you can control that many dogs while feeding , it can happen w/ any amt. of dogs …..
The concern is how many and why …. Do some end up w/ no food at all ?
Should not have that many dogs, looks like they are for hunting and used for this purpose only…

  2. OMD, that is insane. That would never work here. TD and Ciara are chowhounds, and poor Phantom takes forever. He gets to eat privately in a separate room, and TD and Ciara have to do a long sit and wait before the release to eat. They both finish in less than 30 seconds:( No way could we ever do what is in that video although it would be cool to have a few more pups around here.

  3. How cruel! What an inhumane practice. It was horrible. I think meal time for anyone shouldn’t be a fight to the finish. Absolutely a disgrace to do that to those dear dogs. They need someone with a conscience to be feeding them. Also it looked like raw meat- that is unnecessary. There are healthy alternatives.

  4. We all get feed in our crates as we have one little guy, Paul, that is very slow eater and will get pushed away and never get any food otherwise….
