Juice is a sweet 5-year-old, and at press time the longest in residence at the Montgomery County Animal Shelter in Derwood, Md., but it looks like he won’t be there much longer.
Ten months ago, Juice was surrendered by his owner, and not long ago was adopted, but sadly, that pairing didn’t stick and he was returned. So one of the staffers took him home for a sleepover and a break from institutional life. Once back in his kennel, however, the sweet taste of freedom and comfort got the best of him. And he began to cry. The whimpering lasted for hours.
“We’re afraid that Juice is beginning to lose himself,” the staff wrote in a mournful Facebook post. “He needs a home, where he can be himself and regain the confidence and trust that he has lost… Please, don’t let Juice cry in his kennel anymore.”
And then the Internet worked its magic. Juice went viral. And since then, the shelter has had to stop taking applications.
“The response was overwhelming,” MCASAC outreach coordinator Katherine Zenzano told CNN. “We’ve had messages from everywhere. There were a couple from Canada, the Midwest, the West Coast, all asking if they could meet Juice or have him transported.”
Juice may be going to a lucky forever home really soon, but his shelter-mates are still looking. Visit the shelter’s website or Facebook page to see available pets and find out how you can help in other ways!
