Cuteness + Controversy: Yorkie Loves Baby

Comment flame wars have been following this video around the internet all weekend. There have been a slew of dog + baby videos popping up on YouTube this fall, and all draw consternation from concerned parents. But this one is drawing heavy fire, early.

Yorkie loves baby, but some parents are hating this video. Is this a recipe for disaster? This dog lover grew up in the 1970’s, when dogs crawled on babies while driving down the highway in the back of a pickup truck. My, how the times have changed…

  1. I don’t find anything wrong with this video. The parents should just keep a close eye in case one or the other hurts each other accidentally. They’re both just babies. <3

    • training starts at an early age, jumping up and nipping at a babies face and ears is funny now, but not so funny in a few months. I see it and it drives me crazy, its always fun when they are cute pups but its not fun for long and then its too late ! its the worst thing and the saddest thing that we have to deal with in work, putting young healthy animals to sleep because they have bitten the owners kid ! DRIVES ME MAD ITS SO PREVENTABLE AND DOWN TO BAD OWNERS AND LACK OF TRAINING !!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • It doesn’t look like the puppy is nipping at all, but merely licking and smelling. I think you need to take a deep breath. The baby seems perfectly fine and the mother is right there in case she needs to intervene. And also, it’s the ignorant owners that are at fault if they are putting a young, healthy animal to sleep for biting their child and you can’t just generalize and say it is ALL people that allow interactions between children and dogs. This mother seems very cautious and responsible in watching this interaction. The types of people who will put down an animal for one solitary act and with no thought as to warning signs that the animal may have given before biting their child, deserve to be slapped and to have any animal of theirs taken away. There are many rescue organizations who would take these animals because, maybe, that dog just doesn’t do well with small children. Babies and small kids can be very odd to an animal. They make weird noises, they cry, and they take all of the attention. Not all human adults like children, but are we going to put them to sleep too?

        • Yet the baby started to cry at the end of the video and Mom just giggled. Puppies have needle teeth, and ginsu when playing. Stitches are a very likely outcome. Mom did nothing to stop the pup from jumping up and clawing at the babies face.

          • The baby started to cry because he fell back, nothing to do with the dog and the mom put down the camera as soon as it happened, once again people overreacting to nothing.

        • i agree with you 100% if people are willing to put their dog down because a dog is nipping not only should they not have dogs, they should not have children either. People are way to over sensetive these days, for gods sake it is just a baby and puppy playing

  2. I agree with annonymous. The puppy should be taught right now that biting and chewing while jumping is not acceptable behavior. I’m a breeder and I would never let this happen. It’s cute and if it was an adult it would be funnier.

    • The puppy is licking and sniffing. Do you really think the baby wouldn’t cry if it was being nipped at? And also, this is a YORKIE puppy and the baby’s sitting on the ground. I really don’t think that jumping on a seated baby that close to the ground should be considered an issue.

    • I have no problem with teaching the puppy right now. I’m not too worried about the video, but proper training is always best. I personally hope that there is training of the baby, too. Anybody else notice the baby needs to learn not to hit at the dog? I work with little kids, and I know it’s not long before they, too, can really hurt someone! So, while I see no problem yet, I do hope Mom works with BOTH baby and puppy to learn to interact more safely! Kids who hit at dogs and play roughly with them are more likely to get hurt themselves. Sometimes dogs are just responding to what the humans do, and they think that it’s ok to escalate play when the human seems to do that. It’s about monitoring the interactions between the two and helping both learn to treat the other with respect, but it’s also important not to blow things out of proportion.

  3. Really? First off everyone getting all upset about the dogs lack of training are forgetting one thing. This is one 33 second video. How do you know how he dog is being trained? For there to be an outrage about this video is completely ridiculous. Why are people not more upset about the video with the woman beating a yorkie to death infront of a child while someone video tapes it? Find something better to do. I am an animal rescuer. I see horrible things. This is not one of them. And in my opinion there shouldn’t be dog breeders at all. There are millions of animals being dumped by people who shouldn’t have had them in the first place. Then he animals are put down. Let’s spend time saving them, educating the ignorant and stopping over populating by spaying and neutering. That’s my 2ยข

  4. I did not see anything wrong with this video. The puppy was not nibbling at the child’ ears but licking. There is a comment by an anonymous person that worse has happened like people stomping on animals in front of kids. Go after those people that is a crime not this. People who complained about this video must be the ones that wont let their child run in the park for fear of falling and hurting themselves. I tell you what that will hurt more later because the kid grown up wont know what hit him.

  5. Maybe kids should be raised in a plastic bubble from now on… or better yet, let’s not have any babies anymore, since the world is oh-so-full-of-dangers!
