Doberman Pinscher Rescued from Icy Lake

On Sunday, Jan.12, 2014, Jason Newsome took his dog, Diablo, out for a stroll near the lake in O’Fallon Park, in St. Louis, Mo., when the pet took off running and fell into the icy lake. The Doberman Pinscher spent 25 min. fighting for his life, fortunately, firefighters came to his rescue.

The playful dog took off running after a goose. He entered the frozen lake, but the top layer gave way and the canine fell into the frigid waters.

The St. Louis Fire Department’s Rescue Squad 1C answered Newsome’s call for help. They rushed to the scene to save the dog.

Firefighters Demetris Alfred and Stan Baynes used special body suits, ropes, and a ladder to enter the lake.

“[Diablo] was almost done. He kept rolling over and submerging,” Alfred told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Lucky for Diablo, the hero firefighters pulled him out just in time and h was reunited with his worried owner.

Newsome waited for his pet with a blanket and immediately put him in his car to raise the pet’s body temperature. The dog was later taken to a veterinarian.

Diablo was not harmed and made a full recovery.
