Roxie burns (2)Roxie, a 6 month old Catahoula mix, had a normal life up until recently. She had a loving family and would play outside in the yard like many other dogs in the balmy weather of Florida. However, her life would change abruptly after her owner left her outside, contained in the yard, while running to a brief appointment- an innocent action that many a loving owner would make.

However, it just happened that on this day sadistic criminals were on the prowl, searching for a dog to torture. When Roxie’s owner returned from her appointment, she found Roxie covered in severe burns! She was frantic and rushed Roxie to the vet immediately.

The vet performed emergency surgery, removing all of the dead tissue. However, Roxie’s family was only able to come up with half of the money needed for the extensive surgeries that were required to save her life.

Thankfully, Hearts United for Animals stepped in and was able to provide the resources needed for Roxie to recover and receive the care needed. Hearts United for Animals has an emergency medical fund for just such cases and they were able to step in to save Roxie.

Roxie continues to recover from this traumatic event and her family has vowed to never leave her outside unattended again. They never thought this would happen to their beloved Roxie and wish to warn owners of the dangers of leaving a dog unattended in a yard, even when they are contained.Roxie2 (2)
