No one knows who could have tossed a tiny black dog over a 3 ft. high safety fence and into a 32 ft. deep ravine, but the good thing is firefighters from Tacoronte, Spain, were alerted on August 23, 2015, and rushed to the scene to rescue the scared dog.

According to La Opinion, the dog spent over a day abandoned in the ravine. A local man heard the dog barking and crying and thanks to that, the good Samaritan contacted area firefighters to rescue the pet.

“We’re not here just to put out fires,” one firefighter said.

Rescuers said the dog didn’t suffer any injuries, this thanks to the dense vegetation that cushioned his fall. The pet was very scared, thirsty and hungry.

Once rescued, the scared pooch was transported to a veterinarian for a full checkup. There, he will be scanned for a microchip and if one is found authorities will take legal action against the pet’s owner for animal cruelty.
