On Monday, May 12, 2014, the Mukilteo Fire Department rescued Ike, a three-year-old chocolate Labrador, from a cliff in the 1400 block of West Horizon Drive.

According to KIROTV.com the canine disappeared from his home on Sunday night, but it wasn’t until early Monday morning that a neighbor discovered the dog on the edge of the cliff, contacted its owner, and helped rescue the pet.

The Good Samaritan located the dog because he heard the dog crying. Once the pet owner was informed of the location of his lost dog, authorities were called to attempt a rescue.

Firefighters arrived on scene and a rescue team member was lowered 20 feet over the edge of the cliff. The hero rescuer secured Ike and both were hoisted up to safety.

The canine was scared and suffered minor scrapes and bruised on his abdomen from the fall. He was taken to a veterinarian and was later released to his relieved owner.

Ike has since made a full recovery.
