Humane Society Rescues More Than 150 Dogs from TX Home

The Houston Humane Society’s R.A.I.D.E.R. team rescued 150 – 200 Chinese Crested and Chihuahua mixes Thursday from a private residence located at 15318 Oaklawn Park Dr. in northwest Houston.

For years the dogs have been living inside the residence in severely unclean and deplorable conditions. By all accounts, the owner started out as a breeder and at some point stopped selling the animals, who continued to breed indiscriminately resulting in this out of control situation.

Animals will be brought to Houston Humane Society where medical evaluations will be conducted. The Houston Humane Society needs help to handle the influx of 200+ animals. Foster families are desperately needed to help care for  current pet residents to free up kennel space for the rescued dogs who need isolation and extensive veterinary care. Monetary donations are being sought to help cover the costly medical expenses and intensive care.

  1. Well, at least they have been rescued, now to find them homes. But how sad, especially when there was such an easy fix if she wanted to stop breeding. Hope she too can get the help she needs.

  2. This had to have been going on for a very long time…where were the neighbors, family members? Far too often it is the individuals that are in the area just closing their eyes to situations such as these, and yet it is they whom could have stopped this before it became this tragic. Humans must open their eyes and really look at their surroundings.

  3. i live in a very rural area, and this appears to be quite similar to some of the people in our town just outside the city limits. they all seem to be safe inside a fence, have little houses and food….and it isnt the best situatin, but at least they arnt boxed up in tiny cages like in large city breeders homes. if they problem was medical care i understand the anger, but these dogs are in a fenced area with shelter. it isnt as bad as you all are making it out to be..think someone is adding to the drama of a old lady who just needs some help with way too many dogs.

    • I agree with your thoughts. I only wish that this individual would have considered selling or placing her dogs in homes of people who would have offered her cherished possessions a better living arrangement with individualized love, medical attention & affection. I hope that she is given the emotional & financial support that is necessary to recover from her loss. The dogs are in good care now, but what about the human?

  4. I have one of the Chinese crested from this seizure. I have had him for 2 1/2 years now and I still can’t reach out and pet him or go over and pick him up. I am still every day working on getting him to trust people. He finally takes a treat from our hand or will sit on our lap as long as we don’t move our hands at all. So no, I can’t sit back and say “oh hey at least they were in a fenced yard” These dogs were matted with urine and poop all in their hair. ALL of them are scared of humans. And may NEVER trust us. He is my special little boy and loved, its just so sad to see what the results of her being not responsible did. If she was a good honest breeder, she wouldn’t EVER have let this happen. This was a puppy mill regardless of the womans age. It was all about the money and when she was unable to care for them she didn’t do anything to help them go to good homes. She put them out back and forgot about them.
