Thanks to a microchip, Bella, a boxer mix dog was reunited with her family after she had been missing for nearly five years.

140414-BellaThe canine belongs to Bryianna Portela and on April 7, 2014, the dog owner received a phone call from a shelter more than 300 miles away, letting her know they had her dog.

Portela couldn’t believe what she was hearing, but after confirming her identity, address, and exchanging photographs of her long lost pet, she confirmed that Bella was alive and well. Now she just had to wait a few extra days to finally reunite with her beloved four-legged friend.

Thanks to a network of animal lovers, Bella traveled from Alabama to Southern Indiana to be reunited with the Portelas.

It is unknown how the dog made all the way to Alabama, but someone had to be caring for the pet all this time.

Portela is thankful someone took very good care of her pet and she is forever grateful to the volunteer animal lovers that arranged to drive Bella back home.
