Roland Frasier and his dog Wags are on a journey to walk all the way from Jackson, Michigan to Tampa, Florida in an effort to raise money for families dealing with cancer.  The grieving widower recently lost his wife to the deadly disease, and hopes to help other families going through the same thing.

“This is my grieving period.  I do a lot of thinking while I’m walking down the road,” Frasier said.  “I’m in no hurry, I’m taking my time.  I figure I’m more than halfway there now.”

He’s walking in honor of his beloved wife Shirley, whom he would have been married to for 20 years on September 3rd.

“She taught me what real love was,” he said.  “You feel like you’re dying too, at the same time your mate is dying.”

He did everything he could to help her, and Mission of Hope Cancer Fund helped with the financial aspect.

“She would have missed half of her appointments because of gas mileage,” Frasier said. “It was only 12 miles, but you add that up to gas mileage and it would eat your pocket out.  If I couldn’t have gotten her to her appointments, that would have broken my heart.”

Now that Shirley is gone, he and Wags are walking to raise money for others who need the same help his family needed one year ago.

“That’s why I wanted to do this walk – it gives me time to heal and makes my heart feel better,” he confessed.

Fraiser and his stalwart companion started on August 1st and are currently in Oglethorpe, Georgia, two-thirds of the way there.  He expects to reach his destination next month.

He is a long way from his goal of $250,000, but hopes that as the news of his journey reaches more people, more donations will be contributed.  If you would like to help, please click HERE.
