Two puppies were destined to perish horribly, trapped in a fish tank that had the lid cemented shut so they could not be get out.  They had been left on a creek bed to drown, but were miraculously saved by a man looking for his own dog who just happened to see them.

Matt Williamson was searching for his dog in the woods near his Mississippi home when he saw the tank on a creek bed near an abandoned bridge.

“As I got closer to it, I could see these eyes peering back at me… and they looked pretty desolate, like they needed help, and that’s when I called it in to authorities,” Williamson told WAPT-TV.

Had it not been for one missing dog, these two abandoned puppies might not have been found in time.

He noted that the lid of the aquarium (which must have been screened) appeared to have been sealed shut with cement.

“They wanted these puppies to drown in here,” he said.

Hinds County sheriff’s deputies transported the two pups to the Mississippi Animal Rescue League, where they will be well-cared for.

According to WAPT, when reporter Allie Ware reached in to pet the puppy lying down, her sister put her front leg over her to protect her.

“We think they’re probably born out there, maybe in a wooded area, so they’re a little feral, not used to human handling,” said MARL Director Debra Boswell.  “They were running a slight fever yesterday (Wednesday) about 103 when they came in, so, our standard procedure is to put them in a quiet location, number one, because of their temp, and number two, because of their stress level.”

These little guys will be in isolation for a few days, but if they’re healthy enough, they’ll be put up for adoption soon.  Hopefully they will be adopted together!

The Sheriff’s department is hoping for a lead in this case.  Anyone with information is asked to call them at 601-974-2900.  There has been no word on whether or not Williamson found his dog.
