Everyone at the Riverside SPCA knew there was something special about her.  She was loving.  She was friendly.  She had a wonderful temperament. No one could understand how this “goofball,” as she was referred to on the Fido4Ever blog, hadn’t been adopted.  Perhaps it was her being a pit bull. Still, they kept trying, to the point of keeping her up in the adoption kennels almost a month longer than the point when she should have been transferred to the back of the facility and death row.  The staff was in love with her and in this location, which has more animals put down than adopted, a dog like Mandy is a ray of sunshine and hopefulness in an otherwise very sad place.

To their credit, the staff got the word out. That was how much they believed in this two-year old girl.  The one who would flop over on her back at a moment’s notice for a belly rub.  The one who always would give kisses, even through the bars on her cage.  They were hoping for a foster, as that would give them more time to find her a forever home.  With their please came responses from local rescues in the area ready to step up, including the Dream Team Angels of Riverside. On their Facebook page, it says of their organization they are “…a group of women dedicated to the rescue of shelter animals, many of whom are rescued moments before death.”  That is the absolute truth for Mandy.

And there is an even happier ending.  It was announced, today, that Mandy was adopted.  Sunday, just five days ago, the girl was on death row, but thanks to the efforts of the staff at the Riverside SPCA, writers, like Eric at Fido4Ever, and the honest-to-goodness ladies that are, indeed, Dream Team Angels, Mandy has a forever home.

  1. Hallelujah and pass the mashed potatoes! There must be a God after all for surely there are SPCA, DreamTeam,, and Fido-4-Ever Angels in Riverside. What an appropriate ‘Easter’ tail as certainly the adorable Mandy has been saved and shall now be resurrected as a happy well-loved puppy. From my mouth to God’s ears – may it be so- and thanks for publishing Mandy’s story.
