Late in the evening this past Thanksgiving, a family was pulling into their driveway after returning from a Thanksgiving get together. It was freezing outside and the family assumed they would just return to their warm home and head to bed for the night.

However, there were two dogs with other plans!  At about 2am, the North Attleborough (Attleboro) Massachusetts Animal Shelter received a call from the family, reporting two apparently abandoned dogs that had jumped into their car and would not get out. The car was warm and these dogs had decided they were not going to budge! They also desperately wanted the love of a family. The family could not keep the dogs themselves, though, and brought them to the shelter for adoption.

Preston (2)One of the two, Preston, is a stuffed animal loving Pit Bull who loves hugs and snuggling and, of course, lives for car rides! He also likes short walks, laying in the sunshine and curling up in his blanket with his favorite stuffed toy-a sock monkey. His best friend, a beagle/dachshund mix who told him what to do all the time, was recently adopted.

Now Preston remains and is continuing in training classes after successfully completing one round of classes. He also has had “the works” done at the vet’s, where he behaved exceptionally! Preston is now ready and searching for his perfect forever home.

Pit Bull’s often experience discrimination, but when they are with the right family they are as loyal as can be!  Preston gets very attached to people and would do great with someone who is looking for a traveling companion or who has time to show him the love he needs without spoiling him. The perfect family would be one without small children or other pets, as he is not used to them yet. He does seem to do well with small dogs on visits, but the volunteers and staff at North Attleborough are not confident yet of his ability to live with other animals or smaller children.

For the right family, though, Preston would be a loyal companion. Everyone at the shelter is in love with him. He gets nonstop hugs and attention but it is still not the same as a home. His bags are packed and he continues to wait.
