Here’s a happy update to a story we shared a month ago!

You may remember Genie, the Tampa dog whose owner left her at a Tampa shelter with a heart-melting note:

“Please help my Genie. Genie (her name) is paralyzed from I believe her hips to her hind legs. I tried to manage her pain with medication from her vet but they only ease her pain and she needs surgery. I cannot afford so I ask that the Animal Health Center heal her and find her a loving forever home. Thank you.”

Turns out that the 2-year-old Chihuahua mix has a herniated disc in her spine caused by an injury. Sadly, vets determined the condition is inoperable, but staffers at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay were still happy to take up the cause, outfitting the pup with a temporary set of wheels to get her up and walking and set up a fundraiser. Just a few weeks later and Genie is rolling on a new set of custom wheels.

Genie’s foster mom fell so in love, she decided she couldn’t let the scrappy little pup go.

“I was just so compelled to help her out because i just felt so sad for her and we wanted to enrich her life and elevate her to where she was happy and loved and nurtured — and that’s what we’re going to do,” says Jeanie Eberhard, Genie’s new owner, told Tampa’s 10News.

We’d bet that Life With Dogs has many a foster failure amid its Facebook family.

Cheers to both Genie and Jeanie, we wish them the best!
