Elsa is just four months old, and at her young age she had to chew her leg off to free herself from curtain cords.

This little dog from Michigan was left home alone for days during Christmas break. While all alone, Elsa had access to the entire house, and as a curious puppy she explored the entire home until she got caught on curtain cords and was trapped. No one knows for sure how long the puppy was accidentally tethered to the cords, but the thin, strong wrope cut all blood circulation to one of Elsa’s hind legs the pet had to chew off her leg to free herself.

When her owner came home, he found his young pet in excruciating pain, covered in blood and with one missing leg. The puppy was surrendered to The Wisconsin Humane Society and she was treated with pain medication and antibiotics to fight off infections. A complete limb amputation was later needed to ensure Elsa would have the best quality of life.

Because of Elsa’s young age and resilience, she adapted quickly to her new life as a three-legged dog.

After recovering from surgery, Elsa was made available for adoption and on January 2, 2015, she found her new loving forever home.
