Elena Shumilova may be a novice in the world of photography, but you’d never know it from the beautifully captured images of her two sons and their dog, cat, bunnies and ducklings.

I largely trust my intuition and inspiration when I compose photos. I get inspired mainly by my desire to express something I feel, though I usually cannot tell exactly what that is,” she said.

Shumilova photographed scenes on the farm she runs, inveigled by the changing seasons and wide array of weather conditions and natural light.

When shooting I prefer to use natural light – both inside and outside. I love all sorts of light conditions – street lights, candle light, fog, smoke, rain and snow – everything that gives visual and emotional depth to the image,” she explained.

It wasn’t until 2012 that she got her first camera and fostered her passion for photography. Shumilova has recently been using a Canon EOS 5D Mark II with a 135mm lens. Not wanting to miss out on a single moment with her growing boys, she takes photos during the day and develops the images at night.
