Cheers to Canadian first responders for saving this family’s holiday season, rescuing their German shepherd after it fell through the ice on a frozen creek!

Last week, fire chief Denis Pilon of the Swift Current Fire Department posted the successful rescue on his Facebook page. A team of firefighters, aided by members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, worked together for a safe and happy outcome.

“STAY OFF THE ICE!!” Pilon wrote, noting that the dog wandered onto the ice and fell through after owners let it off the leash.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reporter that ice freezes at different thicknesses — without measuring it’s impossible to know which portions can support weight. Notable, as one of the firefighters also fell through during the rescue, but both were pulled out by those waiting on shore.

“Quick action calling the fire department helped save their pet,” Pilon said, reminding people to proceed with caution near ice and “keep pets and children away from the creek.”

Great job, rescuers! <3
