Woofstock 2012 – Emmylou Harris’s Benefit Concert for Rescue

Emmylou Harris hosts Woofstock 2012

On August 18 at the Fontenal Mansion in Nashville, TN, Emmylou Harris, legendary country singer, songwriter, and compassionate animal rescuer, will host the first-ever Woofstock concert to benefit Bonaparte’s Retreat. Bonaparte’s is a rescue group she started years ago to help find homes for unadoptable dogs whose time had run out at the Nashville Humane Association. Bonaparte’s is also rescuing dogs who are on death row at Metro Nashville Animal Control find their forever homes.

Bonaparte’s holds an adoption event every year called Miracle on Music Row. That event features music, an auction, and a parade.  Last year, Emmylou was riding in a convertible, holding a blind dog who had been tied to a trailer for 12 years. “So I’m holding this dog and we’re driving down the road and there’s a guy in a wheelchair with his little Chihuahua and he’s wheeling along and he says, ‘You need to have an event and call it Woofstock.’ I swear to you!” says Emmylou. “What a great idea.” But then we saw that Woofstock is all over the country. So, because of the generosity of the Mandrells offering Fontanel, it became Woofstock at Fontanel. And obviously, we are going to be talking about the idea of adopting from a shelter. It doesn’t have to be my shelter. Anytime a dog is picked up, I’m happy.”

For just a $20 donation, dog lovers and their canine pals can enjoy great music, tasty treats, meet dogs who are looking for homes, and learn more about animal rescue and adoption.

A happy day for this rescued dog!

Emmylou doesn’t just talk the talk. She walks the talk. She’s at Metro Nashville Animal Control, saving dogs, working tirelessly to educate the public about the health benefits of spaying and neutering, the effects pet over-population has on communities, and hopes that one day Nashville will become a no-kill city.

  1. Emmylou Harris you have always been a great singer but now people know that you are just a great person. All the little animals that you and your group help are having happy lives because of that help. This is a great story.
